Mobile Email Marketing Growing by Leaps and Bounds

Recent price reductions driven by increased competition and manufacturing cost downs have fueled an explosion in the use of smart phones. A recent online article in Direct Marketing News entitled Mobile’s share of email up 81% since Oct 2010 points out some interesting statistics in a recent survey Released by Return Path on May 17th:
- Emails accessed via mobile devices increased 81% from October 2010 to March 2011
- 16% of emails were accessed via mobile devices in March 2011 as compared to 9.2% last October
- Mobile email access increases as the week advances and peaks during the weekends along with webmail access
- Email access via desktops decreases more than 3% on Sundays, whereas mobile email access increases by 1.15% on Saturdays and webmail access increases by 2.5% on Sundays
- During the workweek, mobile and webmail each lose market share to desktop, which peaks with a 2.7% share increase on Wednesdays compared to webmail’s nearly 2% drop on the same day
- Email access via Apple iPad increased 15% from October 2010 to March 2011
